Assignment & brand

The starting point.

Use supplied copy and photography to develop a magazine layout in the FIU entry project.

Insight & approach

The thought behind it.

The design challenge is hierarchy: a clear entry point, readable body text and images that give the feature its pace. This describes the visible layout rather than a documented research finding.

Concept & execution

How it takes shape.

The original first two pages are shown. Headline scale, columns and photography establish a consistent editorial rhythm. A later page retains unfinished subhead placeholders and remains in the private source record.

Development / The thinking in motion

Use a grid to organise an editorial feature

The exercise supplied the story and photography, leaving the layout to establish a clear reading order.

Build the page hierarchy

The brief calls for master-page guides, automatic page numbers, prepared images and consistent body type. The retained first two pages apply large headlines, columns and photographic scale to the Corvette-restoration feature.
